Wann bekommt man einen Dammschnitt?
Während noch vor 20 bis 30 Jahren ein Dammschnitt bei einer natürlichen Geburt recht häufig eingesetzt wurde, wird dieser heute nur dann gemacht, wenn es unbedingt notwendig wird. Das ist dann der Fall, wenn der Geburtskanal zu eng ist oder das Kind schnell geholt werden muss.
Warum macht man Dammschnitt?
Früher wurde der Dammschnitt gemacht, um eine Überdehnung und mögliche Risse in der Beckenbodenmuskulatur zu verhindern, die zu einem Dammriss führen könnten. Der Dammschnitt sollte also einem Dammriss vorbeugen und die Austreibungsphase bei der Geburt erleichtern.

Normalerweise heilt ein Dammschnitt sehr schnell, spätestens nach einem Monat ist das Gewebe schmerzfrei und fest. Bis dahin kann die Naht noch schmerzhaft und das Sitzen und Gehen nach der Geburt erschwert sein. Sie können also durchaus einige Wochen lang ein Ziehen beim Sitzen, Laufen oder Wasserlassen spüren.
