Can you see ascites on a CT scan?
CT Scan of Ascites. The radiation dose prevents this as an investigation to confirm the presence of ascites, but CT scan often use to confirm the presence and extend of ascites when performed for another reason. The cause may also be identified, such as evidence of pancreatitis.
Which CT scan findings are characteristic of urinary ascites?
Small amounts of ascitic fluid localize in the right perihepatic space, the posterior subhepatic space, and the Douglas pouch (rectouterine pouch). See the image below. This computed tomography scan demonstrates free intraperitoneal fluid due to urinary ascites. A number of CT scan features suggest neoplasia.
How do you measure ascites density?
The mean ascites density was measured by positioning a region of interest (ROI) on the slice with the most ascites, while maintaining a distance of at least half of the diameter of the ROI relative to the surrounding tissues. A single measurement was taken.
When is the Ob empty in cirrhotic ascites?
The OB was empty whenever the amount of ascites was low or moderate in the GPC (12 of 51 cases, i.e., 23\% of cirrhotic ascites cases), in other words, fluid was found in the OB only when ascites was abundant in the GPC. Even in that situation, the OB was still empty in nine of 39 cases (23\%).
